The number one tip I have for the reading section of the ACT is that the reading section is evidence-based. This means that the correct answer choice will always have a line in the passage that provides evidence to support it.
A lot of students make the mistake of approaching the reading section like a school quiz, but the ACT does not require you to memorize the information in the passages. Therefore, you should approach the questions as you would approach an open book test. Read the passage, read the questions, then go back and FIND THE EVIDENCE that supports your answer.
That being said, I know it can be extremely difficult to finish this section of the test in time. So if you’re concerned this technique will slow you down, practice it. Slow down enough to find the evidence so that you understand what that feels like. Then, with enough practice, you will be able to speed up your process.
